IAL 6 & ABLS Joint Meeting

The Congress will be held at the Asilomar Conference Grounds near the Monterey Peninsula in Pacific Grove, California, USA, ca. 100 miles (160 km) south of San Francisco. Asilomar offers over 40 extraordinary hectares of forests, dunes and coastline situated right on the Monterey Bay National Marine Life Sanctuary. They also offer many meeting rooms, a variety of accommodations and full meal service.

The closest international airport is San Francisco, California (SFO) with connections to Monterey, California (MRY). It is also possible to connect from Los Angeles (LAX) or San Jose (SJC). Four major airlines service the Monterey Airport. Bus service to Monterey is available from San Francisco (SFO) and San Jose (SJC). Local bus service from Asilomar to Monterey is also available. The Asilomar Conference Grounds are about 16 km (10 miles) from the Monterey airport.
More information...

The Monterey area itself is a wonderful place for a summer vacation including the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Fisherman's Wharf, Canery Row (of John Steinbeck fame), Pebble Beach Golf Club, Carmel and Point Lobos Park. The scenic Big Sur coast is a short drive to the south. Ample parking is available at Asilomar and amenities there include the beach, bicycle riding, swimming pool, volleyball, ping-pong, billards and board games.

Accommodations and Meals:

The Asilomar Conference Center is a full service meeting facilitator providing a range of housing options and all meals. Costs will not be established until the latter part of 2007, but in general, substantial cost can be saved by staying 2-4 to a room in contrast to having a single room. For example, people staying 3 to 4 to a room paid $73.35 to $89.95 per person for both accommodation AND meals in 2006 whereas single rates ranged from $143.75 to $177.95 for both accommodation AND meals in 2006. We plan on Asilomar itself will handle all housing arrangements. It is anticipated that participants wishing to stay at Asilomar a few days prior to or after the conference can be easily handled. Ample parking is available on Asilomar grounds for participants.

A few motels are available near Asilomar and many motels and hotels are found in the Monterey area (5-20 miles away). People not staying at Asilomar will be charged a facility fee of ca. $9.00 per day; they may purchase meals separately. Staying at Asilomar should be much less expensive.
